Project mention: Cross-platform Rust rewrite of the GNU coreutils | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-02Not that it should represent the rubicon of when to/not to rewrite code, but when you do, you do trade one set of bugs for a new set of bugs: https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues
It looks similar to u-root https://github.com/u-root/u-root, yes, used as part of host firmware. There's a description of u-root in chapter 6 of https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-1-4842-7939-7, too.

Has anyone used Rust to make any apps/mods/whatever to run on a RG35XX under Garlic OS or any other OS? I've heard of rustybox but I don't think that applies here.
Project mention: OpenBSD cron(8) now supports random ranges with steps | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-05-08Yes, I first learned this and the name "splay" from CFengine, back in the day.
I put together a small busybox-like collection of sysadmin tools, and one of the subcommands is "splay" to sleep for a random amount of time. It's one of those things that is useful surprisingly often, even outside cron.
