I really like the idea of flatfile DB's for data management vs always using SQL DBs or really any DBMS. I haven't worked on this repo recently, but here's a project where I stored valuees to a text file a couple years ago: https://github.com/RPG-Alex/ToDoTxt/blob/master/controller.php . I also have a few other projects, one using xml, and one I kinda abandoned, kinda still wanna do, where I implement a whole CMS using JSON for data storage.

Recently just madre something that uses and creates xml! It's super easy to store values in xml tags and nest them as child tags. If you want to take a look how I did things: https://github.com/alexbteacher/xml-timetabler, obviously I wasn't making xml documents storing file names inside, but all you'd need to do is implement the same simplexml functionality and then change the values you want to your directory results and iterate them to make an entry per file.
