It is enough to have this manual to play?
Those are in the various Record Sheets. Catalyst has several available for download for free, plus more for pay. You can also get all of them with MegaMek Labs or Solaris Skunk Works. Flechs Sheets is an option, but only covers bipedal 'Mechs; no vehicles, aerospace, infantry, LAMs, Quad-Vees, quad or tripod 'Mechs.

beginner
Download the full version of Solaris Skunk Werks or Megameklab and you can print off record sheets for pretty much any 'Mechs. I think SSW is still missing Super-heavies, though.

What do you think about the HeavyMetalPro as a tool for players
You can get the same functionality from free programs such as MegaMekLab and Solaris Skunk Werks which are actively supported and receiving frequent updates.

Noob question about army/collection building
For calculating BV2 on your own it's part of the full constructing rules in the Tech Manual. You can also use programs like MegaMek Lab or Solaris Skunk Werks to do the calculations for you, including pilot cost multipliers.

Where can I find points (cbills) costs?

Wolf Dragoon Record sheets
If you download a program such as MegaMek Lab or Solaris Skunk Werks you can print off your own (or export to PDF, if you prefer). Since CGL is just giving away the record sheets for free, and they use MegaMek Lab to create the Sheets in the first place, is perfectly OK to do this.

Record sheet advice
Because they can all be printed for free using Solaris Skunk Werks (be sure to get the SSW-Master file as well) or MegaMek (grab the MekHQ dev build and run MegaMekLab).

Coming in to Battletech, what is the biggest, dumbest thing (effective or not) I can field and what would I need to do so?
Warships: u/HA1-F is correct, the single largest unit with known stats that can be fielded is the Leviathan II or III warship. Iron Wind Metals does offer a miniature at BattleSpace scale. The record sheet can be printed from MegaMekLab, possibly from Solaris Skunk Werks though I'm uncertain if that program can handle warships. I was unable to locate any Record Sheets books containing the record sheet. As with the Rattler, this unit has no Alpha Strike card. This thing does not touch the ground, it performs orbital bombardment. The only effective defenses are capital weapons platforms like a Space Defense System, a bunch of aerospace assets, or another warship.
