sequoia-pgp has some very outdated dependencies all because of a single unmaintained Windows API binding crate

I did a quick dig through crates.io and the next best thing seems to be the sequoia-openpgp (which you'll notice rPGP mentions in their readme). Unlike rpgp, this one has an examples folder, though no explicit usage guide (a, b, c) like rpgp, even if you find it not extensive enough. It also seems to be stabilised on version 1.x vs rpgp which is on a 0.x. This is usually a good sign that it's not in as much active dev and won't substantially change, which is probably why rpgp doesn't have a lot of examples. It is also worth noting that sequoia uses a GPL v2 licence so I'll give you the usual warning with this license and do make sure this won't cause any legal headaches in your use case, if it's even remotely for commercial uses.
  • A first look at Rust in the 6.1 kernel

I tried to package rustup for Fedora (but was blocked on outdated transitive dependencies) and I had a look at the situation on Debian. I don't think there's any philosophical disagreement. debcargo can package crates not on crates.io fine (since the MR on salsa you linked). The blocking issue is this: https://salsa.debian.org/rust-team/debcargo/-/issues/34, where debcargo breaks if a package has a private path dependency that's not itself published on crates.io. Rustup has a private path dependency as a workspace member so it can't be packaged yet, but this affects all crates with a similar workspace setup, not just rustup. So this is just a technical limitation on debcargo side that no one has worked on yet. I do not see any other reason why rustup won't get packaged in Debian once this is fixed

We spent a lot of time ensuring Sequoia works under Windows. You can read about how to build it here. Note: we only distribute source code. We do not distribute binaries for any platforms.
