  Actually, the silly example has way better discoverability than most CLI software, especially if every option had tooltips illustrating what it's for in more detail.

  I do manage my own CA for some development servers with it, way less of a headache than trying to remember a bunch of arbitrary commands (though obviously not well suited for any sort of automation, which I don't need in that specific use case).

  For anyone who needs to run their own CA (which I'm now doing for my homelab), I've found that using GUI software like KeyStore explorer is a sufficiently easy and lazy way of doing that, which actually works well, both for securing regular sites, as well as doing mTLS: https://keystore-explorer.org/

  For ACME stuff, Caddy will be excellent! Nginx (and certbot) or Apache (and mod_md or certbot) will get you there as well, though the route will be a bit longer.

  I was looking for a lazy/easy way to do this manually and settled on KeyStore Explorer, which is a GUI tool that lets you work with various keystores and do everything from making your own CA, to signing and exporting certificates in various formats: https://github.com/kaikramer/keystore-explorer (to me it feels easier than working with OpenSSL directly, provided I trust the tool)

  In addition, I also setup mTLS or even basicauth at the web server (reverse proxy) level for some of my sites, which seems to help that little bit more, given that some automated attacks might choose to ignore TLS errors, but won't be able to provide my client certs or the username/password.
