  Unfortunately I'm not much of an rc file wizard and only use a relatively simple one myself. You probably already know about it, but this page was helpful for me when setting mine up. I don't know how to reduce the message log spam though. You're right that it's kind of a pain since the occasional important message or just something you want to check on can get lost in the clutter of a hundred monsters dying.
