  • My late and enthusiastic discovery of HTML5
    1 project | dev.to | 14 Dec 2022
So in 2010, when I started thinking about designing software on my own, which later turned in the Open Lowcode project, I naturally went for a native client, using java JavaFX technology. I could actually develop what I wanted, but I had two problems.
  • Are you considering using AI-generated music or art in your game ?

Time and again, I fell in the trap of believing that as I could build, in some aspects, a slightly better product than the big company stuff, it would be worth it, and it has never been (one of my biggest / most pathetic attempts, in which I invested maybe 4000 hours of my time is here, I made exactly $0 with it). There are still some 'low-level' jobs, but they become very few and far between (at, say, Microsoft or Google...). Clearly, game development follows the same trend, even if we are not yet at a stage we can get away with coding.
  • People dismiss making your own engine too quickly in my opinion
    1 project | /r/gamedev | 26 Feb 2022
I say that because, in another area (enterprise application servers), I just tried the equivalent of building my own engine, going as far as reinventing an improved version of HTML ( you can have a look at https://openlowcode.com/ ).
  • A N1 rocket at lift-off in Outer Space Shack, a realistic space base building game. In real life, the rocket did not reach orbit, but you can make it work in the game.
    1 project | /r/spacesimgames | 29 Nov 2021
I will not use the money to pay myself, but this is not a problem: there is no major area of the game that I need to outsource (I can program and model in 3D most of the machinery and equipment), and I have a day job. By the way, I feel confident in delivering the game in those conditions, this is my second major development project as a side project (I am also the author of a low-code development framework).
  • Outer Space Shack, a realistic space base building game starting in the 1970s on the Moon - Kickstarter campaign just launched

Also, I successfully developed an open source project around the same size as the game. While I was not so good at marketing the product, I think this is good quality software, and it is still used by 300 users at my day job company (I actually maintain the server myself, a great experience). So I know I can deliver stuff in addition to my day job. It requires discipline (get-up at 6am on week-ends to work...), but I can handle it.

  • Source code of games
    1 project | /r/gamedev | 2 Feb 2021
I am a big proponent of open source in IT infrastructure and the enterprise space (I am actually the author of an open-source enterprise project I spent 5 years building). The main reason for me to support open-source in that context is that companies can become captive customers, and this always ends nastily: the proprietary software company will become complacent, milk its customers, annoy them in various ways, and reduces innovation. This generates so much frustration that people are ready to invest in the fragile, complex and non-intuitive open-source model to have an alternative.
  • Do you think no-code apps are the future?
    1 project | /r/SideProject | 7 Jan 2021
I am the author of Open Lowcode, an open-source low-code solution for company internal software. This project is born from my frustration of more than a decade wasting time developing software. Software development is so inefficient that something like low-code certainly makes sense. With Open Lowcode, I can typically build automatically 90 to 95% of the application.
  • What is stopping entrepreneurs?
    1 project | /r/SideProject | 4 Jan 2021
I am certainly guilty of that for my project ( Open Lowcode ). I think it could grow more if I spent more time on sales rather than just building the product, and forced myself doing more unpleasant sales activities (the famous cold calling mentioned above...).
