Is there any free website from which I can access the text book for MATH140 or CMSC131?
Not really a textbook for 131, but all topics for Nelson's section can be found at https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC131/blob/master/CMSC131.pdf
- I am trying to prepare for csmc 131 and 132 over the summer so I won’t struggle in the fall. Any advice on where I could do that

Should I take CMSC131?
2) you can find the topics for 131/2 on https://www.cs.umd.edu/class/spring2022/cmsc131-010X/schedule.shtml along with specifics on https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC131 — I would recommend instead reviewing these notes before 132

What are my chances of getting into cs undergrad at UMD college park? Also, what are my chances of transferring into the cs major?
Also, there's a free pdf document an old TA of 131 wrote that tells you everything in that course if you need a quick refresher of any of the basic topics: https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC131/blob/master/CMSC131.pdf

Failed CMSC131
Were there any topics that confused you? Anything you just didn't understand from the get-go? If you need a refresher, you can go to https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC131/blob/master/CMSC131.pdf and look at all the topics taught in the course. A lot of things in computer science, especially early on, can be tricky without repetition and pattern seeing. One website I used to learn these patterns was https://codingbat.com/java. Maybe it can help you, too?

Necessary background information for CMSC132?
I would spend probably 15 minutes skimming over these notes which cover all of 131: https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC131

comsci majors! how did you know cs was for you?? how difficult is it to survive cmsc 131 and 132 and how did you survive?
You’re starting in the summer and have plenty of time to learn and get comfortable with coding. I would recommend looking here cmsc-131 pdf. This is a good resource to study from. It was written by a TA here. This way you have some structure to your studying. Maybe if you feel confident enough before summer ends, you can take the exception exam for 131. I am personally using the 132 version of the pdf I linked to you. It is written by the same person. If you do decide to just use this as a study guide to help prepare you for 131, you’re in good hands because you have two good professors teaching 131 for the fall semester. Keep coding try to build stuff while learning. Watch some tutorials on YouTube, and make sure you understand concepts. Do not try to memorize syntax. As you code more, it will just get stuck in your head. Sometimes you’ll have to look up the syntax which is fine.
