How can I hand off a website to a client that has no coding experience?

Wordpress is fine. If you do that, make you start at wordpress.org, not .com. You should learn how to make a Theme. The main part would be cutting up your HTML into header, footer and various page templates. ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) is a plugin you can use to easily add fields for data and say associate them with specific page templates that display that data. Wordpress is a bit messy and inconsistent but is also free and pretty easy.
