Unless you learn the dark arts and speak the Black Tongue and then the universe will allow you to shoot yourself in the foot, but you'll also know exactly what parts of the code could be the culprit.
There is also some independent rewrite in C (https://github.com/Rust-GCC/gccrs) happening in parallel.
I don't think it is the same as Java. There is no single company owning Rust. Several big companies are investing in rust foundation (https://foundation.rust-lang.org/) including Google in particular which had quite a story regarding Java.
