I was able to process .docx files as ".zip" files with zippex (https://github.com/pdalcol/Zippex) ... I think it is pretty realistic it could potentially work as something to process and at least see what is shows as the uncompressed portion of it. Biggest potential issue is probably heap size and how big the message can be. I'm not saying its the best solution but its something that would process zips in Apex.
