In case you didn't see xandoxi's comment, you will want to get it from their actual site and not the play store. I forgot that that is how I installed it back then. Edited my comment up above with a link too.
If you're on Android, you can use YouTube Vanced, which used to have a much simpler install process, but after a cease and desist letter was sent to the developers of the app, you had to compile from source yourself (make your own APK with the code available on GitHub). Now there is an alpha foss Vanced Manager, which does work well but may need tweaking.
