Magic? Botania is the easy answer here. Okay, okay, it’s not really a magic mod, but it’s in the theme of a magic mod. Still, it’s very vanilla-friendly, allowing you to automate everything in the mod with just vanilla mechanics if you so wish. It’s not hard to get into, and it has heaps of content to have fun with. If you want a “real” magic mod that is beginner-friendly, I’d check out Ars Nouveau, which is a really fun magic mod with powerful spells that doesn’t have a huge skill floor.
All the Mods 7 as well, which is for 1.18.2 rather than 1.12.2. It’s a nice modpack with quests that lets you play at your own pace, and the Discord is a great place to ask for help. I learnt a lot of mods I never got into before by playing this pack and asking questions on the Discord.
