You can get ceiling speakers for around $80 for a pair, an amp for about $40 and a Raspberry Pi for about $50 and that is about all you need to get one room working. If you want to do a bunch of rooms it's best build a Linux server and get some PCI or USB sound cards rather than a Raspberry Pi for each room. Once you have a server you can use it to do other things. Like Homebridge or maybe a Scrypted server so you can use generic RTSP cameras with HomeKit Secure Video. Maybe even a Wireguard VPN server so you have your own private VPN for when you are on a public WiFi.
