The daemon mode only works when it's specifically called via qBittorrent or some other type of manual intervention; it doesn't proactively work on any type of schedule. The idea for the daemon mode is that you want to be able to just process a single torrent file instead of it processing possibly thousands of torrent files every time a new one is added. To do that you have to tell qBit to execute a command after a torrent finishes downloading. Details are here, but I still haven't got it to work yet, unfortunately.
