Sorry, I didn’t get the names right and there is some crossover. If your opener doesn’t have Wi-Fi then you need the controller which is what sends the right signals to your opener. That works fine, and is all you need if you are just going to use their app or HomeBridge which is an open source HomeKit solution (https://homebridge.io/). If you want to connect to HomeKit the way they say then you need the bridge device they sell and that is garbage.
I would get the $20 WiFi myQ bridge from Chamberlain, but skip their HomeKit bridge and use the myQ Homebridge plugin to integrate it into your home. I set this up for someone earlier this year and they’ve had zero problems with it. I’d never even used Homebridge before and that was really easy to set up (I just had to donate an old Raspberry Pi to them!).
