If you decide to go with Next.js and GraphQL, then look at Faust.js. Its a framework for WP frontend built on top of Next.js by the folk over at WP Engine. Its set up to work with GraphQL and it takes care of some of the gotchas like wiring up post previews with the frontend so that that functionality keeps working.
