NYC is reporting 60 deaths on a 7-day average. They have a bit more than half our population. Our 7-day average COVID death number is 47. If we scaled for population, this would be closer to 100 deaths per day.
NHS is reporting 1,843 deaths in the last 7 days where the person died within 28 days of a positive COVID test - for a 7 day average of 263. The UK has a population of 67 million - so pro-rating it to our population would give us 57 deaths - which isn't that much worse than what we have. That said, if someone gets put in ICU for COVID reasons or is held in ICU for COVID reasons - they count in that total even if they are no longer testing positive for COVID. The UK number might be an undercount, although I would guess that if it is, the undercount is not by much compared to ours. Still just a guess.
