I honestly saw the writing on the Google wall about 2 years ago. Service was always spotty and worked on and off. It's part of the Google culture to create a project and then abandon it, just look at many of their other projects. There are even websites dedicated to how they kill off their products (https://killedbygoogle.com/). But It's to be expected as they clearly copied an existing functionality of Sonos and tried to use their market share to WAY undercut them on price. I mean I got two Google home minis for free from them.
