You can encrypt your files with Cryptomator[1] if you don't want Google looking at your files. I'm not sure about their policy on that though? I mean if it's encrypted, then they can't scan for piracy / Christchurch videos and other contraband, right?

this has been my take as well.
honestly, if you're keen to share something you shouldn't, it's pretty trivial to host it via [rclone](https://rclone.org) as an http server. The only one accessing it is the original owner and gdrive can't tell that it's being shared beyond that.
