For GraphQL subscription, try graphql-ws which is much better.
You can instead also do subscriptions over HTTP with SSE. https://github.com/contrawork/graphql-helix is a great and IMHO the better wrapper around graphql.js instead of graphql-http, as it also has first class subscription over HTTP support and isnt tied to express.
