So I put a hold on this approach, and started investigating some more in depth USB approaches. I came across a variety of concepts, which are new to me. I found TinyUSB, which seems interesting. Which in turn exposed me to HID, and CDC. Also on the host application side I came across LibUSBDotNet. As you can imagine, there's a lot to take in, and I'm starting to get a bit overwhelmed.
