You can also use Pro locally and in dev, without paying...also technically for production internal .local business sites but that's a little against the spirit of the license. And they are pretty clear and transparent with their licensing and phoning home (which only happens while using the admin panel)...it's a not secret or sneaky: https://statamic.dev/licensing ....you can even inspect exactly what's in the data package since you can read the code openly: https://github.com/statamic/cms/blob/3.2/src/Licensing/Outpost.php ...and they've been known to work with folks where there are corporate restrictions and such.
https://github.com/roots/sage does a good job at Laravelizing WP. For those that might be stuck working with WP.
One of the key things to note is that the "CMS" section in the backend isn't actually made for clients, the client editing experience should be handled with the Winter.Pages plugin, the dynamic content parser and custom plugins created by using the visual plugin builder Winter.Builder. Try out the Winter.Test plugin to get a feel for what sort of backend editing experiences can be provided for custom data types.
