  Apple ][ emulator for MS-DOS, written in 8088 assembly

In the 1990s Alex and I wrote Appler, an Apple ][ emulator which I recently dug up and put on GitHub. I was going through my DSK files and I remembered that my version of Electric Duet was patched with Alex's player, and indeed it sounded better (see attached video) even running on Appler (running on DosBox-x (running on macOS Big Sur)).

  Apple II Electric Duet player for the Mockingboard and the Cricket!

This is amazing! I never thought that this player could get any better. Some time ago I wrote a player of ED tunes for the Mockingboard (and Echo+) to avoid this noise issue, but of course it limited the number of people who could use it by requiring additional hardware. It also took some shortcuts to set the frequency of the notes, so it might be worse for trained ears.
