If you're going to make the jump, do it at least two weeks before you plan to use foundry in a session. I spent most of a workweek playing with foundry to get the hang of it and figure out what I like, dislike, and want a mod for. There's plenty of guides to modules out there, my go-to is Nathan's 5e/Foundry modules guide.
