You can also try NeoVim, you can configure it in Lua and there are plenty of GUIs for it, an example would be Neovide which has fancy cursor animations.
Woo team tmux! I tried screen at first, but I like tmux better. I also improved my vi/vim a little bit, but when I have a choice I use something like code server.
