Also, if it really has features that depend on features of the host DE, it would need a "hole" in the sandbox to access these features of the host. And I don't see anything obvious in the manifest file. (Sure it is in principle possible to do that with --socket=x11 or --filesystem=home but that seems pretty unlikely here.)

But my point is -- it is not meant to be used in anywhere other than elementary OS. If you look at the issues, almost no one is complaining about critical issues on elementary OS -- I can see people installing it on Debian 10, KDE Neon, Ubuntu 20.10, Lubuntu, Fedora 34, and someone even complained about problems when running it on the Pinephone with Phosh. How is that fair to the developer? They are getting bad rep because people are using their software in ways that they are not meant to. It's like complaining about a car crash because no one was in the driver seat.
