Looking for a minmal static site generator, or is it overkill already?

I've found this, which looked promising, but doesn't seem to be maintained and looks like it would require git, which seems kind of unnecessary?

I realise there is a lot of hate for WP but a 'naked' theme like @ https://github.com/aaronallport/starkers is a great starter ( couple that with ACF for fields ) and you have a really easy CMS.

What you can do is use something like Flywheel to run it locally. Then if you want to take a straight WP site and dump on Netlify use Leon's wp2static @ https://wp2static.com/ to create a static version on the fly.
