Hi! My name's Evan, I'm an engineering student and musician from Arkansas. A couple years ago, I had an idea to make an open source synthesizer with a unique control scheme that you can build at home and learn to play in minutes. My design provides musicians with an instrument that plays in just intonation and also acts as a midi controller for your other instruments giving those instruments the same just intonation. I want to develop an instrument that the synthesizer community will love, and I need your help! The Synharmonium includes aspects of the accordion, the Omnichord, and the piano to give you several easy ways to play. It has a bass keyboard like an accordion, which allows you to play any chord with a single key. From the Omnichord, it takes the strum plate, allowing you to give your chords texture. A familiar piano keyboard is included for playing melodies. With this combination, you can play solo or accompany other instruments, and a revolutionary just tuning algorithm brings mathematical perfection to every note in a way that no other instrument can. With USB and MIDI output, it can also be connected to a computer to control any digital or software instrument. Every part of the Synharmonium is open source. The algorithm and synthesis runs on an Arduino compatible microcontroller, which is beginner-friendly and easily modifiable. This gives any musician the ability to cater to their own needs and modify their instrument as they see fit. This also means that anyone could build their own version of the Synharmonium. An official version is in the making as a preassembled machine and a kit. This is a significant effort and I am just a student, so I need your help to get funding for prototypes and development costs, and I need other contributors to add their skills and experience. With the Synharmonium being such a versatile instrument, it is sure to be a hit with musicians everywhere, beginners and experts, vocalists and instrumentalists, and funds will not be wasted. It may be a long way from production, but the potential of the Synharmonium goes beyond any other instrument on the market today. Best case, we can majorly change how music is composed and performed in the coming decades; worst case, we will have developed a framework for microcontroller synthesizers and made these time-tested control schemes easy to implement in other projects. ## Here's what we need: - Contributors: Programmers, Hardware Engineers, designers, are all welcome. - I'll be populating the github page with issues and projects soon, and you are also welcome to [send me an email](mailto:[email protected]). - If the project makes money, I will compensate you for your help, but I can't make any promises right now. Which brings us to: - Funding: If you can donate, please follow the links on my website. - I can't fund this much more out of my own pocket. If you want to help but can't, please just share this post around. - Organizers: Project managers, discord mods, marketing specialists, business people are welcome as well, [send me an email](mailto:[email protected]). Thanks for reading this, and I hope to hear from you!
