There are a few people working on tools for modding. One guy, RaiderB, seems to be a standout here, like with this script editor here. There have even been recent developments, like apparently in the last couple weeks, other modders have figured out how to replace the debug room entirely, allowing for custom maps. Previously, modders could only work with space already in the game.
