I said I was using kwin-tiling-script, and yes, it does have that—I use[d] it all the time (it's called "Grid" layout)
KWin's tiling engine is just an engine. By itself it supports only manual tiling. Scripts are beginning to appear to make use of it; if you like kwin-tiling-script and you're on Wayland, check out Autotile.
