uYou+ is a modified version of uYou (made by @MiRO92) with additional features and mainly made for non jailbroken users!
For the last part: Set the resolution manually (on every single video and again when the page decides to reload sometimes), then it preloads much more. Or just download literally everything you want to watch with yt-dlp, like me. It even has Sponsor block support included, which cuts out community-marked sections. I've had some issues with that in the past, but I might have used it wrong. It is SO MUCH nicer to watch videos with all of VLC's features and manage files instead of playlist entries or whatever.
For subscriptions, which constantly break anyway, use the "YouTube subscriptions playlist" spreadsheet macro. It still occasionally breaks, but rarer than YouTube's subscriptions and at least you get notified with a precise error message. I'm also planning to write a script that periodically checks the output playlist of that and then downloads the new videos. But all of that once I have some more spare time, so probably not this year.
