glow.nvim is a wrapper around the terminal tool glow. you could probably adapt it to other terminal markdown readers tho

peek.nvim is a browser previewer that can be called through nvim as an alternative to markdown-preview.nvim others have mentioned
https://github.com/lukas-reineke/headlines.nvim this also improves the look of markdown headers, making it a little more similar to how they are rendered in emacs. Without different font sizes / styles in terminal windows, I think this is the best you can get.
Wrote a telescope extension for this. And demo. Well, it just wraps over glow I guess.
Currently using https://github.com/euclio/vim-markdown-composer and am happy with it.
