Unsure how to start, community seems fractured, wanting to setup songs and characters

And no matter which Enciso0720DDR pack I use, the legacy 2 year old one here or the new one here. I did install the bones files, and renamed the Dancepad-DDR.txt files. I just cannot get the characters to load without a permissions error crash, or just a black screen. I've tried with and without A3 theme.
