I tried to install and run Adaway in the MagiskOnWSA and it gives "not enough space on partition" error. I ran it with root.
For Magisk modules you install the .zip files via the Magisk app or using the magisk executable binary (magisk --install-module /path/to/module.zip). For example the Fox's Magisk Module Manager app makes use of that command.
The most recent & popular Xposed framework is LSPosed (which itself is a Magisk module too), which has the ability to enable individual Xposed modules for specific user/system apps of your choosing).
Btw as you dig deeper into what else is out there for these "root" based solutions you may find certain Magisk+Xposed hybrid modules like AOSP Mods, Iconify etc.
