I didn't see any mention of Raku. I think it's not hard to learn, at least if you are not using all its features. Community is small, but pretty active. Not sure about the environment, but it has an IDE (Comma) and I think you either use few files and import pretty much directly, or create a pod file. It has most advanced regexes I ever saw (next step above perl ones) and has (in-language) support of grammars which is nice for parsing (docs for grammars might partly cover the "simple compiler examples"). It has optional typing with some neat ideas, though it leans more towards OOP and feels a bit dynamic (I personally use it for smaller utilities, for bigger projects I use Haskell if possible). IIRC it's not very fast, but if that's not important to you, Raku might be worth a try (or at least a look).
