My Elementary experience so far
By no app indicator, you mean no icon tray in the topbar? You can do that by right clicking the application in plank (taskbar) or the application finder. Opened an issue in their repo. Let's see what they think about it

How to display tray icons in elementary OS Odin?
I've been using namarupa instead of ayatana since 5.1 and worked fine in odin, using the repo i linked, not the original which is apparently unmaintained.
