Wallet users are always wrong when getting hacked?
the BitPay Copay wallet was vulnerable to private key exfiltration due to a anybody-can-play policy in the Node.js repository. A commonly used function library was abandoned by its developer, taken over by a new developer (by mutual agreement). The new developer added some code which exfiltrated private keys from the Copay wallet when this general-purpose library was being called from the Copay app. Copay was safe one day, a theft wallet the next https://github.com/bitpay/wallet/issues/9346

You shouldn't be storing your coins (or withdrawing to) on an online service. At the very least, use a mobile wallet like this one: https://bitpay.com/wallet/

What happens if Hashpack is dead and not working anymore? How can I retrieve my hbars?

Proxy Staking MyHbarWallet? Does anyone know if proxy staking will be available on MHW at anytime? Or will it primarily only be through hashpack and exchanges?
Luckily it's open source (https://github.com/hashgraph/MyHbarWallet). So if it doesn't get the staking transactions (when they're live on mainnet.), you're all welcome to shoot me a DM and I'll publish my MyJcoinsHbarWallet for everyone to use instead .

I would suggest running your own copy of MyHbarWallet locally (you can get it from Github https://github.com/hashgraph/MyHbarWallet) in a virtual machine, so-that you can isolate it to only allow connections to Hedera nodes.
