i created a vscode dbt databricks (potentially other data platform like BigQuery) extension
yes, like u/electric_creamsicle said, you can use a .devcontainer setup. See tutorial here https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/remote/containers-tutorial and example here https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-course-sample/tree/main/.devcontainer

What is needed to make VSCode respect Python Poetry in projects?
I've had this same problem before, so I feel your pain. You can change the interpreter location as others have suggested - you can specify the full path if it doesn't automatically show up in the interpreter menu. You do this more easily by setting your Python interpreter menu to "always on".

i created a vscode dbt databricks (potentially other data platform like BigQuery) extension
I created a vscode dbt databricks extension (, which should also be working with other data platforms like BigQuery, but I just haven't tested it. Let me know how it goes if you've tried). It is a fork on the vscode-dbt-power-user extension made by Innoverio, and the vscode-dbt-bigquery-power-user made by Butchland. And you can just use the same config/setup as the vscode-dbt-power-user extension.
What are some alternatives?
