Split keeb pros: you can prototype quickly, one side at a time
I'll inset M2 nuts using a soldering iron and the screw it in. I also saw an interesting mounting solution on this project, might steal the idea: https://github.com/victorlucachi/void_ergo

What is the cheapest split ergo with a decent thumb cluster ?
Cheapest would be a 3D printed hand wire keyboard. The only expensive part would be the switches and keycaps. The rest would be in the range of Pennie’s to a few dollars. For an ergo, you can look at the V0ID ergo which is designed to be printed and hand wired. You can then use any controller (the cheapest would be a Arduino Pro Micro clone off AliExpress. Yes, it will take time and work to make it but it will be the cheapest thing you can make. You can even look for used mechanical keyboards to get the switches and keycaps from if you want, or look on AliExpress for them.

Designed and built my first setup! Full Github in comments! Help me get it into QMK :)
Hey Everyone! I recently designed and built this keyboard after wanting an ergo mech keyboard and wanting to use the WorkLouder keycaps! I really wanted to make something that would be easy for anyone to replicate so I spent a lot of time focusing on the GitHub page so you can have all the resources available if you want to build one yourself! I would absolutely love to get this board in the official QMK repo so that I can upload the VIA keymap. This would allow anyone who builds this to be able to pop the keyboard in and have VIA load the config automatically. If you have some spare time, I would love some reviews on my pull request here (QMK encourages anyone, even if you aren’t a official contributor to review pull requests) This build was heavily inspired by the Void Ergo S keyboard which was my starting point. I also learn a lot about wiring from Joe Scotto, so thanks so much!
