Neovim uses the Vim colorschemes, which themselves seem to have undergone some improvement thanks to being updated using this tool called vim-colortemplate.

Exactly! I think I'm gonna use colortemplate, which has also been used to generate all the updated versions of the colorschemes packaged with Vim!

The default colorschemes....
With so many amazing colorschemes being created in the plugin ecosystem, I don't think they are a priority for the core of Neovim. I unfortunately have no time these days, but I would have loved to use something like TJ's colorbuddy.nvim plugin to rewrite the default Vim colorschemes in Lua as a learning project.
