You can find the code of the UntilDestroy decorator by this link. All it does is patches the component's ngOnDestroy with unsubscription logic and call the original method at the end.

OP talked about the Testing Library and personally think it' the best choice. Not only your low level tests are now quite readable with Angular Test Library, but you can keep the same approach (DOM rather than component, user driven, ...) for higher level tests as you can also use it with cypress and now playwright.
