Is it normal for the in game menu to break some games? (Everdrive GB X7)

But there are patches to many games to enable a save state via a button combination, and the author has been really good about adding games as requested: https://github.com/mattcurrie/gb-save-states

Are there any Gameboy flashcarts that support save states, more affordable than the X7?

I beat Battletoads on Gameboy!
After I got a flash cart, I was sad to discover that save states don’t work with Battletoads natively on the GB Everdrive X7. But then I found this collection of patches that adds save states to individual games: https://github.com/mattcurrie/gb-save-states and I made myself essentially a level select for Battletoads with 8 copies of the ROM and 8 different save files. Then I started practicing stage 8.

Everdrive X3 owners - What are your opinions of the long term reliability of these devices?
There is a series of patches for gb roms that will add save states to them which you can use on the x3. The available patches don’t cover every released game, but many of the most popular titles do have them available. Keep in mind, you’d still have to press the button on the cart to write the save file, but they work exceptionally well and I still use them even on my x5. I find them perfect for games that don’t have a save system or games that save but you might have to walk away from before getting to a save point. Check them out here.
