diffview.nvim vs fugitive
Regarding integrating diffview into fugitive: I was curious, and I found that it's actually not that unfeasible to do. Take a look at this little module I just pushed to my dotfiles. It mimics the interaction between neogit and diffview. In the fugitive status buffer it allows you to press D to open a diffview with the file under the cursor selected. It also works for the unpulled commits section, in which case the diffview will show only the changes for that commit.

Horizontal split nvim-tree and aerial.nvim ?
I tried the plugin Winshift to move windows around and put Aerial below Nvim-tree, and it works well!

question about changing splits layout
Well, according to my experience by ctrl-w H|J|K|L I was able to adapt 4 window into whatever I wanted. Mostly it was enough for my workflow (since I'm also switching buffers or sometimes I'm using tabs) For more windows I occasionally use https://github.com/sindrets/winshift.nvim but it is only for neovim and I'm not aware of alternatives for pure vim.

smart-splits.nvim - smart, directional split resizing and navigation
Definitely gonna give this plugin a try! I would also recommend checking out winshift.nvim which adds a "move windows around" mode which is also way more intuitive than Vim's own way of moving windows around.
