I have taken a look at the page for debugging steps for Homekit recording and haven’t played with any setting mentioned there.

Unfortunately the options for HKSV doorbells is fairly limited. The Logitech circle view Doorbell looks like the best candidate but it has a spotty review history, with the biggest complaint being it breaking in direct sunlight.

I’m about to buy some cameras and I’m thinking of just buying Nest and using https://scrypted.app to bridge to HKSV.

In the demo video linked to from the Scrypted Github repo, the author has some kind of a delivery box (visible in the top camera), with a camera inside the box in night vision mode, able to report on whether there’s anything in the box. Does anyone know how this setup was achieved, or have done something similar to combine a camera with a closed delivery box?

I see two options, both from brands that seem to be well-received on the brand report card.

You might want to try setting them up with Scrypted then use the plugin to get them into Homebridge.

You need a plug in called Camera.UI. It’s great, I use it with my Wyze cams.

You can use virtually any IP camera you want thanks to HomeBridge. I am currently using a Yi cam that I hacked then I’m using HomeBridge and camera-ui.ip plug-in for it. Not the most straightforward, but the cheapest, and setting up HomeBridge unlocks so many possibilities with smart wifi things that are not HomeKit native.

I use https://github.com/seydx/homebridge-camera-ui with my RLC-523WA and it also supports Homekit Secure Video.

Now that this is a Homebridge Raspberry Pi, I can't find any plugins allowing me to use the camera. Only RTSP plugins, like camera.ui (https://github.com/seydx/homebridge-camera-ui)...

Homebridge-camera-ui is very well maintained and works well. I’d use it over homebridgecamera-ffmpeg for now, unfortunately the author of homebridge-camera-ffmpeg has had some difficulties lately and hasn’t had much time to update it.
