anyone use the bitcoin app?
Apparently the OP is using the Schildbach Bitcoin wallet for Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet https://github.com/bitcoin-wallet/bitcoin-wallet

I use the Bitcoin wallet app - does my public address remain the same throughout?
Most likely Schildbach's Bitcoin wallet for Android https://github.com/bitcoin-wallet/bitcoin-wallet

Dr. Craig's grandfather was credited with breaking the Japanese military's communications code during World War II, serving Douglas MacArthur from the College of Communications
Overall, it depends on the amounts you play with and how comfortable you are with losing them. I've had Schildbach's OG bitcoin wallet on my android phone for a while, I just carry it over along with its private keys whenever I swap phones. It's nowhere near as safe as what I'm recommending here, but it's basically only holding some play money for those impromptu "bitcoin accepted here" situations.

anyone have experience with the Bitcoin mobile app
It's probably https://github.com/bitcoin-wallet/bitcoin-wallet, which is the original Android wallet. Perhaps an odd choice today.

Recovering funds from 2014 KNC wallet keys backup as a hash?
Found this from Andreas Schildbach's Github repo - KNC used the same codebase. Got the private keys and now importing into the Electrum clients.
- Found old wallet key but can't access it

Recovering funds from 2014 KNC wallet keys backup as a hash?
Does anyone have any idea on how the KNC Wallet Java code backup/restore functions work? There's only about 10EUR of coin in there from 2014, but I would like to try and recover what's left in there and my Java knowledge is almost zero.
What are some alternatives?

btcrecover - BTCRecover is an open source wallet password and seed recovery tool. For seed based recovery, this is primarily useful in situations where you have lost/forgotten parts of your mnemonic, or have made an error transcribing it. (So you are either seeing an empty wallet or gettign an error that your seed is invalid) For wallet password or passphrase recovery, it is primarily useful if you have a reasonable idea about what your password might be.
