Dismiss LSP pop us by pressing escape
If you are interested, I was testing the popui plugin that was posted in the subreddit recently, https://github.com/hood/popui.nvim and it esc does if you setup its pop ui diagnostic. Maybe something in the source can be of help.

Can I use nvim-cmp to select code actions?
Thanks for the help! I looked at https://github.com/hood/popui.nvim , it seems perfect until you see the dependency hell of https://github.com/RishabhRD/popfix ! Is there no simple built-in popup selector that can be used?

Can I use nvim-cmp to select code actions?
Managing popups only using the built-in nvim API is actually bothersome: it's not simple, one needs to deal with creation, interruption, auto-hiding, etc. That's why there are some UI plugins like [popup.nvim](nvim-lua/popup.nvim) (will be merged to upstream when ready), plenary.nvim or popfix. In short, you'll need a plugin.

Neovim popups
Thanks, I also found https://github.com/RishabhRD/popfix but it seems to lack the most basic thing. In the meantime I'm trying to implement it myself.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing popui.nvim and popfix you can also consider the following projects:
plenary.nvim - plenary: full; complete; entire; absolute; unqualified. All the lua functions I don't want to write twice.
nvim-code-action-menu - Pop-up menu for code actions to show meta-information and diff preview
nui.nvim - UI Component Library for Neovim.
packer.nvim - A use-package inspired plugin manager for Neovim. Uses native packages, supports Luarocks dependencies, written in Lua, allows for expressive config
