Modern computers are fast enough for even the LaTeX to come up with a solution in a reasonable time frame (still, think minutes, not seconds). The TikZ library colorbrewer doesn't define a color Dark2-3-2 but it does have Dark2-A through Dark2-H, and the PGF library colorbrewer organizes those into colormaps, so you can lookup the color map and use the desired colors:

You’ve clearly either not read the source code for any complex LaTeX package or haven’t understood it. Your criterion is ‘data structures and algorithms’? Well, here’s a data structure, and I’m sure if I dig around for a couple of minutes I can find an algorithm. The PGFPlots maintainer has the package on his resumé, and he has a job. Even if he didn’t, that’s clearly an unnecessary criterion. You’re unlikely to be hired on the basis of your MACRO-11 knowledge. That doesn’t stop it being programming.

You can inline LaTeX chapter/section break commands even when processing Markdown, and in several ways (dropping \newpage directly in the content before chapters, using header templates, as YAML metadata in the Markdown file, even on the command line).

Really? Should work with any OpenType font. Are you generating in a language that doesn't use roman-ish alphabet? You're not wrong that working with TeX can involve a lot of yak shaving in general. If you really want to go that route, take a look at pandoc and ping me if you have questions. Pandoc in combination with the Eisvogel LaTeX template can be a quick way to get a really good-looking doc.

I want to use this template : https://github.com/Wandmalfarbe/pandoc-latex-template And it's not really great with HTML export which is why I need a PDF preview.

I looked for pandoc templates, and found "eisvogel" (https://github.com/Wandmalfarbe/pandoc-latex-template) although I still did not like how it rendered as I wanted it to look like a dissertation.

I write Markdown files in VIM and compile them to a PDF using pandoc. I use the eisvogel LaTeX template to make the document more fancy.
