Mind Map Plugin
I really enjoy utilizing the mind map plugin when I'm learning a new subject. It definitely helps in my hierarchal understanding and keeps me honest when I'm creating a new note structure.

looking for a specific mindmap/concept map tool that lets me do two way links or similar
The basic Mind Map that looks like this and can be shared as an interactive html file.

I didn't realize the community has grown so much..
Sorry, I just re-read that, and it looks like an omission on my part. I think I was trying to link to the mind map plugin: https://github.com/lynchjames/obsidian-mind-map

Trilium Notes: note taking application for large personal knowledge bases
I don't do the mind map thing, but I do make heavy use of Obsidian as my note taking solution and it has a graph view to show the connections between nodes.

There are also 3rd party plugins that further build on it's system like https://github.com/lynchjames/obsidian-mind-map
Obsidian itself runs locally on top of markdown files (with it's own flavor).

Is it possible to create a collapsible tree diagram like this with a date slider that shows changes in the contents of the branches over time?
The Obsidian Mind Map plugin lets you create diagrams like that using markdown.

Folder Notes plugin and pen & paper are the killer companions to Obsidian
Waypoint with Folder Note has been a huge improvement for me over things I used to try to do with Breadcrumbs.

Best practices for tags
Parse block but do not render: - Don't use inner links like [[Note]] in the YAML block, because it doesn't update automatically when you rename the link title. You can test this yourself. - To navigate between MOCs I use Breadcrumb plugin and fill 5 fields (up, same...). - Source block consists of link to article, video...link to author (or simple text), and date of content. - Original block is optional and is used for content that links to the original object (article, video, book). In other words, make it clear that this object is an heir to the knowledge. - Summary field I use to attach to Meta-notes or Group-notes - Summary field, that I use to attach to Meta-notes or Group-note so that I can use Dataview syntax (🤖 =[[NOTE]].summary) to show what the article is about and mark it with an emoji 🤖, because you can't tell if I wrote it myself or it was writting by someone else.

And the breadcrumbs plugin may also be useful for you since you seem to like to have hierarchical organization.

Tips for genealogy and biography work using Obsidian?
Perhaps one plugin I think might be very useful in your use is Breadcrumbs. It allows you to set up Parent > Child > Sibling relationships between notes using metadata, has a descendancy view (shows all notes in an outline that are related), it's own graph tailored to it's use, or can use Juggl for custom views. I'm sure there's more that isn't coming to my mind right now. But I think you'd find it helpful. The documentation is good, and there's even some YouTube videos on using it.

Underrated plugins??
I think the Breadcrumbs plugin is highly underrated. It gives me another way to structure and navigate my notes in hierarchies that is independent of organization scheme.
- Tagging links themselves possible?

“Note sequences Function” or Note Behind a Note Function”
Maybe something like Breadcrumbs?
