Microsoft sqlsrv.so Extension for MS SQL - need ODBC ?
Using the Microsoft github area for this, I grabbed the PHP shared library (.so) files for Debian 10. [Was this the right flavour to grab for Synology?]

SQL Server Connection Issue after Server IP Address Change, Port Works but Instance Name doesn't
I did find this github issue where someone was unable to connect to SERVER\INSTANCE, closed as expected behavior. A response also said requests from Linux must be made over TCP and not UDP. The linked Microsoft documentation says as much, but is slightly confusing:

How to fetch columns individually from a collection of rows
Just out of curiosity, what was it then? Because if I look at the (pdo)sqlsrv source, LOB's should be possible.

PDO throws an exception on Apple M1 when connecting to SQL Server Database Container (Unknown processor architecture.)

There is no problem with using MSSQL with PHP it's easily doable and supported. See the Microsoft open source extension: https://github.com/microsoft/msphpsql
